I don’t know what we expected when we first started up this song a week thing.  Our “side project” to Moving Rushmore quickly became the “main project”.  Now 52 songs later here we are.  Its been an awesome experience and its really neat to look back over the past year and see/hear the progression of our music.  Although there was the occasional mediocre song, for the majority of the time we put out some pretty cool stuff.  I know that I can look back with a sense of pride over what we’ve accomplished in the past year.

We’re really grateful to all of you that have told your friends about us, bought our music, blogged about us, came to our shows, and enjoyed our music.  Just because we’re done with the song a week doesn’t mean that we’re done making music. You could say that we’ve only just begun…

You’ll especially want to check back next week as we’ve got something special brewing.

If you’ve enjoyed this song a week project and want to keep up with us, this would be a great time to sign up for our e-mail list, follow us on twitter, sign up for our podcast and/or friend us on facebook.  We’re still going to be active so if you want to know what we’re up to then those are some good ways to keep in touch.

New Day – SOTW #28

New Day

I’m not really sure what to say about this song.  Its basically an affirmation of support… or something like that.  I think its supposed to be a message that no matter what happens, I’ll be right beside you.  This song started with a guitar part that I came up with when Patrick was over at my place for practice on Tuesday.  I came up with some lyrics and a melody of sorts and sent it to Pack and he added the cool loops and percussion.

SOTW #24 – A Thousand Bars

The Panther by Rainer Maria Rilke

CLICK FOR A SAMPLE

Its hard to believe we’re up to week #24!  We’ve had songs all over the map so far, and this one is definitely a contender for being one of the most “out there.”  Some weeks the finished song isn’t very different than the original rough track.  This song however has been very evolutionary.  It started with some simple loops that I sent to Patrick.  Then he added some really cool ambient vocals.  We still didn’t have any lyrics at that point and Patrick had the idea of incorporating a poem.  Due to my (non)extensive knowledge of poetry I suggested “The Panther” by Rainer Maria Rilke.  And then there was more back and forth until we ended up with whatever it is we ended up with.  It was definitely an interesting process.  Enjoy!

Apathetic Skies (SOTW #19)

More people will call in sick today (first Monday in Feb.) than any other day of the year. “Psychologists claim National Sickie Day is the result of a combination of factors, including bad weather, long, dark nights and the seemingly never-ending wait until summer” (quote from Peter Mooney).

But this song highlights the tension that many who experience depression feel: needing people so badly, but not wanting to be seen as “needy,” they push away the very people who love them while trying to minimize their need for help.

For this song we decided to release the 1st version in its original raw form. It just communicates better that way.

How Can It Be (SOTW #17)

I wrote this song when Patrick and I were out at the Stone Barn last go around. We’d been rehearsing all day and I was just struck by how incredibly blessed I was to have a wife that was supportive of my ridiculous life.

I’ve got a wonderful wife, and sometimes it doesn’t seem fair that someone as special as her ended up with somebody like me. And I hope when you are married you’ll be able to experience the same thing.
