I don’t know what we expected when we first started up this song a week thing.  Our “side project” to Moving Rushmore quickly became the “main project”.  Now 52 songs later here we are.  Its been an awesome experience and its really neat to look back over the past year and see/hear the progression of our music.  Although there was the occasional mediocre song, for the majority of the time we put out some pretty cool stuff.  I know that I can look back with a sense of pride over what we’ve accomplished in the past year.

We’re really grateful to all of you that have told your friends about us, bought our music, blogged about us, came to our shows, and enjoyed our music.  Just because we’re done with the song a week doesn’t mean that we’re done making music. You could say that we’ve only just begun…

You’ll especially want to check back next week as we’ve got something special brewing.

If you’ve enjoyed this song a week project and want to keep up with us, this would be a great time to sign up for our e-mail list, follow us on twitter, sign up for our podcast and/or friend us on facebook.  We’re still going to be active so if you want to know what we’re up to then those are some good ways to keep in touch.

This song ended up sounding a little like Owl City (check them out if you haven’t already).  As I wrote this song I was thinking about a friend of mine who is experiencing a heart wrenching break-up and these are some of the questions he’s asking.  I’m reminded that to love deeply puts you at risk of hurting deeply.  Is it worth it?  What do you think?

Worth the While

Lyrics by Patrick Largen

is this really going to end?
right here and right now?
come hell or high water
you’ll float or you’ll drown

is it worth it

and I wonder all the time
if you’ve had it all figured out
and if all this is something
worth the while

and this is really going to end right now

last newmusicmonday song – it’s a little bittersweet, but i’m sure you guys will do greater things :)

as for my thoughts on love… is it worth it?? love is ALWAYS worth it – ALWAYS! and knowingly, to love is to run the risk of being hurt… the deeper the love, the deeper the hurt when it all goes awry. and when we’re hurt, we forget to appreciate that fact that we ever loved at all.

  2. Scott Smerchek says:

This reminds me of a great C.S. Lewis quote from “The Four Loves.” Love is definitely worth the while!

There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket–safe, dark, motionless, airless–it will change. it will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.

What will I have to look forward to now? Was it worth it to fall for new music monday? And is it really going to end right now?

You better not take the streaming music off–because I love pulling this website up and listening to it all.

Scott, the song made me think of that quote too! This was definitely a fitting end to a fantastic project. Thanks for all the musical joy the past year. Now do some more live shows!
