It’s Commentary time!!!! For the commentary to If All Goes Well, you’ll need to subscribe to the podcast (and give us a 5 star rating if you feel so inclined…) But you can listen to our commentary for Lonely Word right here!
EDIT: Just kidding! Pack’s surgery got cancelled and has yet to be rescheduled. But feel free to leave a comment anyway .
Remember the time Patrick broke his arm? No? Maybe this will refresh your memory…
Unfortunately, six months later his arm STILL hasn’t healed properly and he’s going in for surgery tomorrow. So why not leave him a little encouragement in the comments section?
This week’s song is interesting in that it has a strong electronic feel to it, but everything was recorded on an acoustic guitar (with the exception of Patrick’s vocals.) Patrick did the lion’s share of the work on Saturday and I did a tiny bit of editing Saturday/Sunday then Patrick recorded the vocals Sunday afternoon. Its short and sweet. I’m curious… what’s your interpretation of the song?
PS We haven’t abandoned the random noise idea, but thought we’d give it another week or two to allow for more input from people.
We’re going to try something different this week (yeah big surprise, huh?) We’re going to create a song using your noises. So, whether you have ideas of different noises (crumpled paper, breaking glass, honking horns, etc..) that we can go record or you have actual sound bites you want to send us,we’re going to take those and create a song this week. Making something beautiful out of Chaos. Should be fun.
SO SEND US YOUR NOISES BY:
Leaving a comment with your noise idea.
Emailing any audio files to twosecondsaway (at) twosecondsaway (dot) com
Use the little video commenting feature we just installed to record your sound (we’ll say this is in “beta”)
Katie H. sent us a recording of her new Zebra Finches. Take a listen! Thanks Katie!
This morning on Twitter one of the trending topics was #lameclaimtofame. This was one of the more entertaining memes I’ve seen in awhile so we solicited some of your lame claims to fame. What’s yours?
@jesstherese – “at a festival afterparty I asked Caleb Followill to ‘talk for me’ so I could hear his accent”
@craigstutzman – “I once spoke to Tim Seley AND Patrick Largen at the same time!!”
@kzhines – “haha! I won my school’s talent show in 6th grade by playing “My Heart Will Go On” on the piano. ”
If this song were a person it would be an ethereal Forest Gump, I’m convinced. Tim and I laugh at how much our songs change from start to finish. This song is no different. And since we tried to post our additions you can hear how it evolved. Click to hear earlier versions.
Patrick uploaded the two newest commentaries last night around 1AM. He’s crazy. For the commentary to Fast Car you’ll need to subscribe to the podcast (and give us a 5 star rating if you feel so inclined…) but you can listen to our commentary for Chasing Pavements right here!
This week we’re going to try something a bit different. Most weeks Tim and I send the song back and forth, each adding things to it, but this week we decided to let you be a part of the process.
So here’s a very boring acoustic guitar riff with a little keys and I’m calling this one redwine. Tim will mess with it and post his additions. Then I’ll play with it and send it back and so on. Sort of like tennis.
Your job: You all please feel free to give us input on what you like and what you don’t like, as well as any ideas you might have. Cmon, it’ll be FUN!!! Just click to listen. (stop the player at the bottom first)
Had a long day today so I only got to mess with it a little. Not sure if I really like what I added or not, but we’ll see what I think of it in the morn. I think I tend to agree with Kyle in thinking maybe no percussion but I went ahead and added a little loop along with some soft horns. I think lyrics and melody could dictate which direction this one goes but I really like the simplicity and cleanness of it right now.
I sat down today and listened to the song after having not listened for almost 2 weeks… I know, SLACKER. But, I started writing a melody and some lyrics and after I was done I remembered that we actually talked about a direction for this song. I had totally forgotten. BUT the direction I took was remarkably close to what we talked about. Who knows, we may scratch it and go with what Tim was thinking (at this point he hasn’t heard it yet). I recorded a few lines of harmony and then reversed some of them and cut em up. Kind of a cool effect, I think. What do you think?
