A Waste SOTW #31
April 26, 2009 | Song of the Week
“The unexamined life isn’t worth living†– Socrates I was reading a great book the other day (The Artist Way by Julia Cameron, which I think is out of print so if you see it at a used book store BUY it!!!) and she countered this Socrates quote with, “the examined life unlived isn’t worth living.†I think this is so true and I tend to be one or the other. I either focus too much on reflection, and fail to truly live, or live too much in the moment, and fail to reflect. Both extremes are safer. The amazing artwork is a Jeff Moore original, and the model is my beautiful wife!!! Also earlier this week I sent out a message asking for help with a line in the song. Shout out to Tyler, John, Kyle and Lisa for your help!
A Waste
Lyrics by Patrick Largen
Is it by the look in my eye you can tell that things are not okay
The night is long and I’ve gotta be strong and I’ll need help finding my way
Because an unexamined life and an examined life unlived
Is a waste
Will you try and open my eyes and do what it takes to be free
And I will not run or be overcome and I won’t let anybody see
Because an unexamined life and an examined life unlived
Is a waste
Because an unexamined life and an examined life unlived
Is an empty glass bottle that has nothing left to give
And it’s a waste
