Music You Should Know – The Autumn Film
March 11, 2009 | misc
We’ve really been enjoying our new site design and how easy it is to update. So much so that we’re even going to start posting about stuff that doesn’t necessarily directly pertain to OUR band. And since we ourselves need people like bloggers to write about our music, it only makes sense that we should do the same for other musicians that we appreciate. So for our first “Music You Should Know” entry I decided to pick a band that you may have already heard me obsess about. And they have their own free music giveaway. More about that below…
I first heard about The Autumn Film (Boulder, CO) a couple of years ago when my friend Jon Hensley sent me an e-mail about them. At that time Patrick and I were both actively a part of the band Moving Rushmore and were starting to book some shows. They were able to come up and do a show with us and my obsession began (after a brief incident on the interstate (see video.)
Much like their name suggests, TAF makes dynamic, touching, cinematic music.
“Like a post-collegiate Fiona Apple jamming with Snow Patrol, The Autumn Film serves up a piano-drenched sincerity topped off with a voice that’s wise and heartbroken beyond its years” (The Onion)
Tifah has a rich, powerful voice that is full of character and she’s great at the keys. Her voice is both familiar and distinctive. And its awesome to the nth degree.
You’ve got Dann on the drums. He makes super cool artwork which you can buy here. I’m very much a fan of the style that Dann plays. Driving, syncopated, tight. And then there’s Reid.
Reid plays the kind of guitar that I’ve really been getting into the past couple of years. He plays it like more than just a guitar. He creates all sorts of sounds and ambient textures that fill out the sound of the group and makes the guitar actively contribute to the FEEL of the song.
Reid’s also one of the founders of Backstage which it just so happens is a great place to get some free music. INCLUDING The Autumn Film’s music. Click here to download the Autumn Film’s Grey EP for FREE. They’ve also got another EP available and the link for that can be found on their website theautumnfilm.com.
So check out the video, download their music, and tell your friends, because that’s key for musician’s to “make it” these days. And next time you’re talking about music with a friend you can say “I know TWO bands that you should know.”
