There Won’t Be Enough Time (SOTW #18)

January 26, 2009 | Song of the Week

I started a part time job a few weeks ago, thus the 2 songs in a row from Tim. Way to take two for the team, Tim. The first month of a new job always seems to take it out of you and, as I have a hard time being split focused sometimes anyway, I’ve found myself thinking multiple times “When will there be enough time to do all the things I want to do?” And then it occurred to me: there will never be enough time. Time is one of the few things we have absolutely no control of. NONE. We can’t have more, get more, cry for more or buy more, we can only choose what to do with it. Time just slips through our hands never to be recovered. Even the time that we call now is gone already.

So my “new” New Year’s resolution (if you remember from the last vid cast, my “old” New Year’s resolution was to lose weight…so original, I know!) is to quit whining about not having enough time and live in the moment I’m given. Plus, this New Year’s resolution is less quantifiable than my last one (of which I haven’t had time for… HA!) and works quite well with my right-brain, don’t-box-me-in artistic side…and probably drives all you left-brainers a little crazy!!!

ps Just to get a little taste of what the back and forth process of our recording is like we included a little chat transcript from the past week here.

“There Won’t Be Enough Time”
lyrics by Patrick Largen

All this intersecting motion
Keeps clouding my mind
And the thought of getting better
There won’t be enough time

We have now to belong to
And this falls behind
And the memories don’t like company
There won’t be enough time

Now is what we’ve been given
And it’s all that’s mine
Now is gone and forgotten
There won’t be enough time

Wow!! I really like this song….good perspective!!! Thanks for keeping all this going guys!! It’s great!!!

  2. Tim says:

Thanks Craig! Which version did you like better? Think we might try to put a poll up.
edit: we added a poll on the front page… let us know what you think!

  3. Kyle Gach says:

    Another winner guys.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this too, but with more of a time spent learning versus time spent doing perspective. Right now I spend far too much time learning how to create things (websites, particularly) perfectly instead of actually creating anything. One of my favorite aspects of this “project” of yours is just how much you guys actually make. You don’t worry about getting everything just right, you just post a new song each week for us to enjoy and I’d bet that 99% of the time, we never even notice the imperfections that would be so easy to get caught up on. Thanks for the encouragement guys.

  4. Patrick says:

Kyle, you’re always so encouraging! Thanks man!
