Mr. Insecure (SOTW #16)

January 12, 2009 | Song of the Week

I’m writing this in a food poison induced haze, so my apologies if there are sentence fragments, incomplete thoughts, or just general confusion.

I’m a pretty insecure person, but I’d like to think that I’m improving.  This manifests itself in a number of ways. Primarily I’m extremely critical of everything, jealous of other people’s success, and scared to fail.  I’ve been noticing it more lately so what I set out to do was write some sort of sarcastic/happy kind of song to put my insecurities out there.  Turns out I don’t write very happy music 🙂 But its been a good process for me the past few months to really stop and think before I speak.

Patrick tends to get the brunt of my negativity, which, when there’s only two of you, makes for a non-creative, unpleasant environment.  So I’m glad I wrote/recorded it, if for nothing else than to expose my negativity and to put myself out on a proverbial limb.  Hope some of you cynics out there can enjoy it.

-T

p.s. When I sent this to Patrick there were only two lines that I really wanted to change, but they were actually his favorites. Kind of par for the course for us 🙂

“Mr. Insecure “
lyrics by Tim Seley

I tend to criticize, it’s easy to do
It’s fun to be critical as long as it’s not you
Come on everyone tear apart those who try
I’m just the insecure guy

No more I’m tired of fighting this war
No more lets throw insecure out the door
I don’t want to lay here curled up on the floor
I won’t be afraid anymore

I’m Mr. Insecure I hope you still like me
If you don’t I’ll understand if I was you I wouldn’t
Be sitting here talking to the insecure guy
So never mind don’t bother goodbye

Tim and I really switched places this week. He did all the writing and recording and then got sick so I did all the web stuff. So if the website looks and acts jankedy you know why!!

  2. Steff says:

  4. Lydia says:

Another great one, guys. Thanks for sharing the dark soul-places, Tim. It’s courageous.

  5. Lydia says:

One more thing…the artwork is great! It’s like the EASY BUTTON on the Staples commercials. Wouldn’t it be great (but way too easy…so maybe not-so-great) to push a “secure button”? Hum…interesting thought. Where could I get one of those?

  6. Sarah says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!!! It has such a universal meaning……Everyone Can relate!!!!
