So Tim and I can’t sit still for very long… We have started “two seconds away productions!” This is a side business to our side project which is now the main project… Confused? (so are we sometimes) We needed a source of income and hopefully this is it. Anyway, if you know a band who wants a live audio/video recording of their shows send em our way! -patrick
update: here’s a little video we did for our friends over at theautumnfilm.com Make sure and check out their site as they have lots of free music as well!
About a month ago I was thinking about the loneliness of being left. It can happen in many different ways, but there was one particular person that I was thinking about, and the music kind of came out of what I imagined their experience of being left to be like. It was a surprisingly emotional experience for me.
It’s not very poetic. Just simple and honest. This is also the first song that I sing on. We recorded this one out at the stone barn (see stone barn video) and there are lots of interesting textures in the background. Some things like the chiming wine glass were intentional, but other things like the crackling fireplace were not, (although we really like the effect.)
We’ve got a request for you. We’re starting to focus more of our efforts on promotion and could use your help. First off, if you have any great promotion ideas/contacts send em our way. In the meantime we’d really appreciate it if you took a couple minutes and wandered over to our podcast page in itunes and gave us a review. The more reviews the more that helps our chances of being featured. And if you haven’t had a chance to subscribe yet now is a great time . (our podcast page)
This song is not autobiographical, at least not in the “my wife and I had a fight so I sat down and wrote this”, kind of way. Matter of fact I remember when I wrote it, I had her come in and listen and we laughed about how it sounded like we had just had a knock-down-drag-out.
But it is autobiographical in the sense that this is the way I tend to handle conflict. I have this warped idea that to apologize, is to lose and that as long as there wasn’t intent to harm, I’m justified and need not say “I’m sorry”.
On the flip side when I feel wronged I often assume the worst intentions of people and therefore feel like it is their responsibility to restore relationship with me. I find myself talking around the glaring issue while inwardly I grow more and more bitter.
Change is indeed, slow.
(Side note – This song didn’t come from these thoughts as much as these thoughts came from this song.)

Well, Pack and I (Tim) are back out at the stone barn and we’re working on some new tunes. Right now we’re sitting next to the fire and drinking a nice glass of wine. That’s what rock stars do right? Today was actually the first time that we both sat down at the same time and worked cooperatively on a song. I think you’ll like it . We may post a bit while we’re out here.
The lyrics for this week’s song were actually written by our super talented friend Jason Graves. He was a member of our other band, Moving Rushmore. We asked Jason to do a brief write up and here’s what he had to say:
“It’s no small thing is a song that expresses how hard it is for me (and most other people) to actually feel the pain and emotion that resides in my heart instead of living and pretending like everything is perfect all the time. In my experience, feeling that pain has always led to disruption and change that hasn’t been easy, but has ultimately changed me for the better.
The hardest part about meeting pain in my life is that I feel alone. One of the most encouraging things about this song is that it reminds me that I am not the only one. Every single person has hurts and painful experiences that have shaped who they are and in this sense we’re all in it together. It’s very easy for me to get tied up and shut down inside when I don’t feel or take time to express to someone else what’s going on in my life. So I hope this song connects with that often felt desire each one of us has to be real and honest about the reality of what we feel, but so often suppress because of fear.”
We couldn’t agree on who should be in the picture for this post so we compromised… Here we are cramming to get ready for tomorrow.
In other news, two seconds away got played on a podcast, “The Musicians Cooler”. How fun! (If you’re an indie musician, check ‘em out.)
This song started out as me just venting my frustrations out on paper. I was extremely frustrated with a friend of mine (no not Patrick) as well as frustrated with life in general. So I was basically saying the things that everyone wants to say, but most of us don’t.
It was actually extremely therapeutic. In the process of writing out all of my frustrations on paper it became apparent that the things that I was frustrated with about my friend were also things that frustrate me about myself. It was very educational. So I sent the stuff to Pack and he put a fun melody to it. It’s one of our better colloborative tunes yet. Enjoy. -tim
