"Front of my Car"
- click for lyrics

So one bright spot about the whole broken arm thing is it’s forced me to write without an acoustic guitar. I say “bright spot” because I think I write better from the keys, and I think my voice fits better.

For this song I didn’t have a whole lot of direction until about half way through the writing process. After playing the piano part I was trying to come up with a melody and these words came out… “I’ve been thinking all night about how to say this right” and “I‘ve never fallen this far.” Now, you can go so many directions with a song at this point, but it got me thinking about the night I proposed to my wife:

I had it all planned out. I was taking her to this small pond where 9 months previous we had started dating (again…but that’s another story for another time). But when we got there the park was closed. So the rest of the night I was racking my brain trying to come up with Plan B. We drove all night seemingly aimless as I played out different scenarios in my head. Finally I stopped the car and asked her, in very non-flowery words, to marry me. And she said… “Are you serious?”
Yeah, I’ve never really had a way with words.

I wonder how many of us guys had to go with plan B. 10 1/2 years ago, plan A was spotless, until it wasn't. Then plan B mercifully worked.

Good, simple song. Thanks for the hook.

My plan A had a few speed bumps but overall went great :). Curious about what everyone's plan A/B was...

Thanks for the story behind the inspiration. It's funny how well thought out plans for proposing inevitably get toasted... A blizzard forced me into a plan B.

Great song.

Well Patrick, I must say that the songs are all awesome but they get better and better each week. I loved this song and "In the Way". Especially the video...great. I think fans like myself are the ones without words, your music fills in the blanks.

Lil sis, just because I am good at arguing... Doesn't mean I am good with words!!! The funny thing is, Lindsey proofreads almost everything I write... She is the one that is good with words.
